Climate Action Days

2024-25 Climate Action Days

About Climate Action Days

As the largest public school system in the country, we can make a positive impact! That’s why New York City Public Schools has launched Climate Action Days.

On these four days, every school in New York City engages in climate action to build a better future, for our students and our planet. Like Earth Day, these are days to galvanize action, but focused on celebrating solutions and schoolwide action.

2024-25 Dates and Themes

  • Tuesday, November 19: Waste
  • Wednesday, February 5: Energy
  • Wednesday, April 9: Health, Wellness, and Green Space
  • Wednesday, May 21: Water

Health, Wellness, and Green Space Climate Action Day

Climate action and wellness are connected by a common goal: healthy students and healthy school environments.

That’s why on April 9, we’re celebrating the theme of Health, Wellness, and Green Space. Your school will have the opportunity to highlight outdoor learning and play, access to clean air, and stewardship of open green spaces.

Ideas for Schoolwide Action

  • “Plant-Powered” Day – encourage everyone to eat at least two plant-based meals
  • Wellness Pledge – create a pledge for staff, students, and families to commit to a healthy practice
  • 2-Minute Meditation – set aside time for a schoolwide meditation using Mindful Breathing activities
  • “Sit with Nature” Day – encourage classes to spend time outdoors for a lesson or activity
  • Student Engagement Session – join a virtual lesson/activity hosted by our office

In addition, you are encouraged to plan lessons and activities to supplement your schoolwide action and demonstrate how addressing climate change can improve the health and wellness of our students and our communities.
