What is 'Pride!'?

The purpose of Pride! Employee Resource Group is to foster workplace inclusion throughout the New York City Public Schools (NYCPS), promote a sense of community for NYCPS employees, serve as a resource for the NYCPS as it works to support our students and families, and, through our visibility, represent our fellow employees, students, and their families.

We Seek & Strive to:

  1. Advocate for workplace inclusion and an environment that meets the diverse needs of the NYCPS’s LGBTQ+ employees.

  1. Promote community among the NYCPS’s LGBTQ+ and allied employee community and provide opportunities for collaboration across the department, professional development, and networking.

  1. Serve as a resource to the NYCPS’s divisions and offices as they strive to better support and empower our students, families, and staff who identify as LGBTQ+.

Working Assumptions:

  1. NYCPS LGBTQ+ students, families, and staff members come from a variety of intersections of identity. This includes LGBTQ+ employees of diverse racial and/or ethnic backgrounds, religious backgrounds, socio-economic status, and more. As we advocate for LGBTQ+ identities, we remain conscious of these intersections.

  1. We understand that transgender and gender nonconforming students, families, and staff members face unique challenges, and our collective work will seek to empower and center the voices of these members of our community.

  1. We ensure that the perspectives and needs of LGBTQ+ students, families, and staff members continue to guide our work while acknowledging the powerful voices of allies in all movements.

  1. We all come to this work with varied understandings of the experiences and needs of the LGBTQ+ students, families, and staff members. We seek to grow our knowledge.
