Women in Management (WIM)

What is WIM?

The Women in Management (WIM) Employee Resource Group at New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) supports the professional, social, and personal development of employees who identify as women while driving Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in our workspaces. WIM identifies and addresses the barriers and workplace power dynamics that inherently marginalize women.

Our Mission

Our vision is to support the advancement of women into leadership positions within the NYCPS. We are on a mission to offer pathways for women to enter into and excel in positions of leadership within the NYCPS by facilitating and providing networking, supportive, and developmental opportunities to support personal fulfillment and successful
careers.

Our History

WIM was founded in 2016 by Linda Green and Meryl LaBella under the senior sponsorship of Elizabeth Rose. In 2017, Ms. Green and Ms. LaBella led an ERG that focused on building leaders. Members worked on their resumes, improved public speaking and interview skills, and built new connections through a mentorship program. Ms. Bastien and Ms. Coke currently serve as the co-leaders of Women in Management and have helped members define the issues that women of diverse backgrounds in facilities face. Members spent time understanding various obstacles and were provided with techniques to help confront future and existing problems.

Our Purpose

  • Provide professional and personal development growth opportunities
  • Encourage improved communication skills
  • Facilitate networking and access to senior leadership
  • Provide a safe environment for sharing and feedback
  • Create a resource that can be utilized to help solve problems
  • Provide greater customer service to students and schools
  • Identify ways to introduce the field of facilities to female-identifying students and offer opportunities to learn
