Since the 2022–2023 school year, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has handled all Emergency Information Center (EIC) calls from schools. EOC agents are trained in both EOC and EIC protocols and use the incident details to initiate OORS reports.
As per Chancellor’s Regulation 412, the principal/designee must notify the Emergency Information Center whenever NYPD is called or responds to a school-related incident or a non-criminal and/or medical incident occurs which may have public health and/or safety implications or is newsworthy, e.g., shootings, bomb scares, bus accidents, attempted suicides.
When EIC receives a report, EIC will initiate the Online Occurrence Report (OORS report) in the Online Occurrence Reporting System (OORS). EIC will provide the school with a control number. Within one school day, the principal/designee must review, update if applicable, and submit the OORS report.
If the principal/designee becomes aware of a school-related incident which must be reported to EIC outside of EIC’s regular hours of operation (i.e. after school on weekdays when school is in session and during the weekend or holidays when school is not in session), the principal/designee must immediately report the incident to the Borough Safety Director and send an email to EIC regarding the incident (EICReports@schools.nyc.gov).
The EIC phone line, 718-935-3210, is available from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday, when schools are in session.
If the principal/designee becomes aware of a school-related incident which must be reported to EIC outside of EIC’s regular hours of operation (i.e., after school on weekdays when school is in session and during weekends or holidays when school is not in session), the principal/designee must immediately report the incident to the Borough Safety Director and send an email to the EIC, at EICReports@schools.nyc.gov, regarding the incident, using the below templates.
These templates can also be used to notify the EIC when schools are in session.
