As announced on November 18, 2020, the DOE will temporarily close down all public school buildings for in-person learning, effective November 19, 2020.
Staff can get more information on the Coronavirus Staff Updates page.
Families can visit schools.nyc.gov to learn more and get supports for remote learning.
While schools will be closed for in person instruction, certain necessary staff will continue to report in person and others may be asked, consistent with applicable union agreements, to also report in person to support important functions such as the distribution of devices or learning materials. Please note the following additional information:
- Central and Field Office Staff – This closure only affects school buildings. Staff in central and field offices should continue to follow current expectations for work location unless advised otherwise.
- Redeployed Staff – Staff who have been redeployed from a central/field office to a school should continue to work with their assigned school.
- Per Diem Substitutes (Teachers and Paraprofessionals) – Substitutes may be asked to work remotely at the discretion of the school; assignments do not automatically convert to remote work. If there are questions, reach out to your school contact.
- Reasonable Accommodations – Reasonable Accommodations to work remotely remain in effect during this period of temporary closure.
